FPL – Best Opening Fixtures
One of the easier tricks to get a better rank in Fantasy Premier League is to hit the better fixtures. Fantasy sports, to an extent, mirror the results from actual results on the field. Take defensive assets from a team that is facing a relegation battling team that can barely stich five passes together? Clean sheet almost guaranteed. Take the blazing striker from the team that is facing the team that ships in goals for fun? Massive two digit haul incoming.
In this piece, we will take you through the teams that have a favourable run of fixtures at the start of the season. For the sake of better planning, we have divided the article into four parts, in the following manner –
1. Short term
This section shall contain information on teams to target for an extremely short duration, i.e. up to 3 gameweeks. A very easy pick for this type, Aston Villa.
Can’t get an easier start than Aston Villa. Watford and Newcastle also lack the necessary firepower and the will to attack. Therefore, the defence is likely to get as many points as the attackers will, in these fixtures.
2. Short to Mid term
This section shall contain information on teams to target for a short to mid-term duration, i.e. up to 5 gameweeks. For this type, we have chosen Liverpool and Brentford.
Liverpool are the team to target this FPL season at the start. Some would even suggest a triple-up for Klopps men. Apart from the Chelsea fixture in Gameweek 3, all other fixture are promising, and likely to get double digit points for multiple Liverpool players.
Bonus tip – Liverpool have a favourable 6th fixture too (Brentford), before they face Manchester City in the 7th Gameweek of the season.
Brentford assets are to be taken with a slight caution since they are a promoted team through the Championship play-off last season. However, the fixtures could not have been better to allow them to settle into the Premier League.
3. Mid term
This section shall contain information on teams to target for a mid-term duration, i.e. up to 7 gameweeks. For this type, we have chosen Manchester United and Watford.
The Red Devils are the only team to not face any Big 6 side in the first 8 matches. However, from the 9th fixture onwards, their fixtures take a bad turn. Despite that, the initial run is too good to neglect with the new signings incoming.
Like Brentford, Watford are a promoted team too, and therefore require similar caution. However, if Watford assets are to ever be picked in this FPL season, it is now.
4. Mid to Long term
This section shall contain information on teams to target for a mid-term duration, i.e. up to 10 gameweeks. For this type, we have chosen Everton.
Everton face none of the top 6 clubs in the first six fixtures, and after facing Manchester United in the 7th Gameweek, their fixture run improves again as they face no big side till 10th gameweek. Their team is a bit inconsistent, and the squad and management is yet to settle, but some of the fixtures are too good to ignore.
